Josh Frydenberg tests positive for Covid-19
The federal Treasurer, Josh Frydenberg, has announced he’s tested positive for Covid today “like thousands of Australians”.
The federal Treasurer, Josh Frydenberg, has announced he’s been infected with Covid.
“Like thousands of Australians, I tested positive today to Covid-19,” Mr Frydenberg wrote on social media.
“I have the common symptoms and am isolating with my family.
“My thoughts are with those who have Covid – this is a difficult time but we will get through this.”
Mr Frydenberg is the latest government MP to contract Covid with Defence Minister Peter Dutton testing positive in March 2020 and Deputy Prime Minister Barnaby Joyce revealing he had Covid in December.
His tweet was met with well wishes from many, including shadow Treasurer Jim Chalmers
“Sorry to hear it, Josh. All the best for a speedy recovery,” Mr Chalmers said.
Dr Stephen Parnis, the emergency physician and former vice president of the Australian Medical Association, also sent his best.
“I hope your recovery is rapid & uneventful Josh. I suspect you’ll be more worried about your kids than yourself. Best wishes,” he wrote.
However, some on social media couldn’t help but meet the news with digs at the Treasurer about the lack of available rapid tests and the long queues to get a PCR test.
“How did you find out? Don’t tell me you actually managed to get hold of a RAT? Surely you didn’t succeed in finding a PCR test station open?” was one of the general comments.
New South Wales on Friday recorded 38,65 new cases and 11 deaths, while Victoria recorded 21,728 new cases and six deaths.
Tasmania recorded 751 new cases of Covid-19 on Thursday as health authorities warn numbers are believed to be much higher than what is being reported.
