Coronavirus Australia live: Household 'bubbles' for single people under consideration

Victoria's chief health officer Brett Sutton has said loosening restrictions for singles living in Melbourne's lockdown is under "active consideration".

NSW authorities scramble to prevent another Sydney cluster

Victoria's Chief Medical Officer Brett Sutton has said authorities are considering allowing single households to merge into "bubbles" when virus restrictions ease in the state after being asked about it on Twitter.

Prof Sutton empathised with those saying it was "awful" living alone in lockdown and said the idea was being "talked through".

It comes as Victoria Police say those attending anti-lockdown protests and planning future events are a "selfish minority of foolish people" who could see the hard work of their fellow Victorians come undone.

Assistant Commissioner Luke Cornelius said a 76-year-old Windsor man was arrested this morning and charged with incitement after allegedly inciting others to breach the chief health officer's directions.

"There are any number of groups out there, and if you just did a Google search on 5G, anti-vaxxers, anti-mask, look – the tinfoil hat-wearing brigade are alive and well out there in our community," he told reporters."And they're taking every opportunity to leverage the current situation to serve their own ridiculous notions about so-called sovereign citizens, about constitutional issues and about how 5G is going to kill your grandkids.

"I mean, it's just crazy, it's bats**t crazy nonsense."

Friday marked the fifth day of anti-lockdown protests in Dandenong, in Melbourne's south east, with another event planned in the CBD on September 5.
