Coronavirus poll: What Australians think about Victoria’s harsh lockdown

A news.com.au poll about Victoria’s harsh virus restrictions has revealed the approach Australians wish the premier had taken.

Victoria's road map back to 'COVID normal' revealed

A news.com.au poll has revealed how readers feel about Victoria’s lockdown, wearing masks and the Premier Daniel Andrews.

The poll, sent out earlier this week, asked a range of questions after Mr Andrews revealed road maps – one for regional Victoria and one for Melbourne – that he hopes can get COVID-19 numbers in single digits and have a Christmas that is “as close to normal as possible”.

Victorians who have been subjected to some of the harshest social restrictions anywhere in the world will have them eased back gradually under a four-step plan that starts at midnight on September 13.

Of more than 30,000 people who responded to the question about Victoria’s roadmap, 62 per cent said they thought it was too strict.

Similarly, 54 per cent of people said they thought extending stage four lockdown for a further two weeks was too harsh.

That majority (62 per cent) thought the Premier’s roadmap should have been geared towards locking down hot spots rather than all of Melbourne and 63 per cent said mental health assistance for people in lockdown was inadequate.
