Coronavirus Australia: Melbourne's lockdown, latest numbers, NSW on alert and Delta variant tracing continues
There's increasing pressure from fed-up Victorians for an early end to lockdown, but the Acting Premier says it relies on one thing.
The acting Premier is facing pressure to end Melbourne's lockdown early as low case numbers continue.
Speaking today, James Merlino said it would be "absolutely based on public health advice."
"We do not have the luxury of picking and choosing the public health advice that we receive.
"I hate going into lockdown, like every single Victorian I want to be out of lockdown as quickly as possible, the way to do that is for people to get tested, for people if you are eligible to get your vaccination, for people to follow the rules," he explained.
It comes as chief executive of the Australian Industry Group Innes Willcox called for the Victorian government to devise an immediate path out of lockdown to save the state's businesses.
However, health officials are still working to identify the source of the Delta strain that has ripped through India. It has so far been found in 10 people including two families in Victoria. The first family to present with the variant travelled from Jervis Bay in NSW.
Victoria recorded two new locally acquired cases on Sunday, and another two cases in aged care that will be included in tomorrow's numbers. It comes after the state recorded five new locally acquired cases in total on Saturday, including three close contacts of existing cases.
