Coronavirus Australia live updates: Victoria records highest increase in community transmission

Victoria has broken an unsettling new record after recording its highest single-day increase in cases linked to community transmission.

Victoria has recorded its highest ever single-day increase in virus cases acquired through community transmission, reaching a an unsettling new milestone in the against COVID-19.

 

There are now 301 cases of community transmission across the state after 20 more cases were found to have no known source.

Australian National University’s Professor Peter Collignon said these numbers are extremely concerning.

"While it looks less than what we had in March and April, the reality is back then only about 20 or 30 per cent of cases were community spread," he told Sky News.

"The vast majority were overseas residents or returned travellers and now the numbers of community spread is actually bigger than then."
