BRITAIN'S Prince Charles and his wife, Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, have started a tour of Jordan to examining the plight of Syrian refugees.

In Jordan on their first stop, Charles addressed Muslim and Christian religious leaders during a visit to the King Hussein mosque in Amman on Tuesday.

He also met Prime Minister-designate Abdullah Ensour, attended an enterprise conference and saw officials from the Amman-based digital content production company, Rubicon.

Camilla visited a children's museum and a local school renovated in a project of Jordan's Queen Rania.

Charles and Camilla plan to visit refugees Wednesday, but not the main Zaatari camp near the Syrian border, because of security concerns.

There are more than 425,000 refugees from the Syrian civil war in Jordan.
