A BURGLAR is rethinking his career choice after stumbling upon a dead body hanging in the dark as he snooped around a house.

A BURGLAR is rethinking his career choice after stumbling upon a dead body hanging in the dark as he snooped around a house.

The burglar's terrified screams alerted neighbours to a commotion at the house in Hamilton, New Zealand, The NZ Herald reports.

The prowler rang police and reported himself, in order to raise the alarm.

Hamilton city area commander Inspector Greg Nicholls said officers were investigating the "very unusual" incident.

He said he had never heard of anything like it happening in his 28 years in the police.

"I'm hopeful that this may be a career-changing moment for that burglar," Mr Nicholls said.

"Can you imagine what that would be like in the dark?"
