Pentagon releases price tag for war on IS

THE US is spending an average of $US9 a day on the war against IS in Iraq and Syria, with the air force bearing two-thirds of the total spending.

THE US has spent more than $US2.7 billion ($A3.48 billion) on the war against Islamic State militants in Iraq and Syria since bombings began last August, and the average daily cost is now more than $9 million, the Pentagon says.

RELEASING a detailed breakdown of the costs for the first time on Thursday, the Defense Department showed that the Air Force has borne two-thirds of the total spending, or more than $1.8 billion.
