THE Australian journalist at the centre of a Thai legal case has welcomed the end of the trial, calling it important for media freedom.

AN Australian journalist being tried in Thailand says his news website's future is uncertain, despite being optimistic about the trial.

ALAN Morison, 67, and his Thai colleague Chutima Sidasathian were appearing before a Phuket provincial court on criminal defamation charges and breaches of Thailand's computer crimes act.
