BBC rejects UK MPs' push to call IS Daesh

BBC Director General Tony Hall says the broadcaster will not stop using the term IS after more than 120 MPs urged it to start using the word Daesh instead.

THE BBC says it will continue to use the term Islamic State (IS) to describe the jihadist group in order to maintain the broadcaster's impartiality.

CONSERVATIVE MP Rehman Chishti and more than 120 other MPs had written to BBC Director General Tony Hall to ask that the corporation use the term Daesh in reports about the group's activities as it was an acronym with "negative connotations".
