Sister of murdered backpacker Hannah Witheridge slams Thai authorities for callous remarks

SHE lost her sister in a brutal murder in Thailand, but now Laura Witheridge is speaking out against callous remarks Thai authorities made after the death.

THAI authorities reportedly told the sister of murdered backpacker Hannah Witheridge to “just go home and make another one”.

It was just one of many insensitive remarks, alongside multiple death threats, that Laura Witheridge has faced after her sister’s untimely death.

Hannah, 23, was bludgeoned to death on Koh Tao island. Her face was so badly damaged by the murder weapon — a garden hoe — that she was unrecognisable.

Laura has labelled Thai police officers “corrupt” in a passionate Facebook post.

“Many Thais hate Westerners and they have little to no regard for human life. I don’t say this lightly, or without reason,” Laura wrote on Facebook, The Sun reported

She recalled insensitive comments made to her devastated parents during the trial of Burmese migrants Zaw Lin and Win Zaw Tun, who were found guilty of raping and murdering Hannah Witheridge.

“Why are you here? Why do you care? She is dead already,” they allegedly asked, according to Laura.

“Why are you so bothered? Just go home and make another one. Why are you making such a fuss, she will be back in 30 days as something else, she may have better luck next time.”

Laura added: “Would it surprise you if I told you that Thais view drug possession as a more serious offence than rape or murder? Or that the vast majority of the Thai police force are corrupt?

“Since we lost Hannah there have been many more suspicious deaths on Koh Tao. You probably haven’t heard of them all as not all were British nationals.”

Hannah was murdered alongside David Miller, 24, who was knocked unconscious with a blow to the head and left to drown in shallow water.

David’s brother Michael Miller said justice has been served.

“He (David) was hacked down from behind, dragged into the sea and left to die. That will live with us forever. What happened to Hannah Witheridge is unspeakable,” he said.
