A ONE-TIME advisor and former close confidant of Schapelle Corby has been detained at Bali airport, allegedly attempting to board a flight with 11 bullets in his luggage.

Australian man, Vasudevan Rasiah, a Bali-based property developer, was a senior consultant and the spokesman on Corby’s legal team after her arrest and during her high-profile trial.

It is understood that Rasiah was stopped at Bali’s Ngurah rai airport yesterday after an X-ray of his luggage showed 11 gold-coloured bullets.

Rasiah was about to fly on a Malaysian Airlines flight to Kuala Lumpur and it is understood that he has told officials that he is a hobby shooter, hunting in the forests of Klungkung in Bali and had no idea the bullets were left in his luggage.

News Corporation has obtained photographs of the bullets and other evidence.

Aviation security officers, who uncovered the ammunition, reported the matter to airport police who are understood to have detained Rasiah for questioning.

But there is no confirmation of the legislation under which he is being detained.

Rasiah, along with lawyers Lily Lubis and Erwin Siregar, were the high-profile team representing Corby as she faced trial in the Denpasar District Court on drugs trafficking charges in 2005. Rasiah was not a lawyer but was described as a consultant to the legal team.

It was Rasiah who frequently addressed the media about the case and who was involved in strategy.

But later, after Corby was convicted and sentenced to 20 years in jail, she and Rasiah parted ways.

Her sentence was eventually reduced, on appeal, to 15 years, and in 2014 Corby was released from Kerobokan jail on parole.

Since then she has lived in Bali, under supervision of the parole office, where she must remain until the expiration of her sentence in 2017 at which time she will be deported to Australia.
