Fatal Bali landslide hits Songan Village
TWO children are among seven people who have been killed after a landslide hit a Bali village.
SEVEN people, including two children, have been killed in a landslide that hit a Bali village late Thursday night, authorities say.
Unrelenting heavy rain and poor slope conditions, caused a landslide in Songan Village in the north-east of Indonesia’s popular tourist island at 11pm local time on Thursday (2am AEDT).
Seven people were killed and four houses buried when the landslide hit, Indonesia’s National Disaster Management Board Spokesman Sutopo Purwo Nugroho said on Friday.
The victims included a seven-year-old girl and a one-year-old boy, whose mother was also killed.
The Indonesian Red Cross, the military, police and volunteers are on site providing emergency care.
“All victims have been successfully evacuated,” Mr Nugroho said. The disaster board has warned that heavy rain is likely to continue to fall on the region and has warned people to be cautious of landslides, floods and hurricanes.
