China’s propaganda mouthpiece has made a wild accusation about Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and who the real winners are.

China has claimed sanctions imposed on Russia are part of a US ‘playbook’ which see western countries benefit from the continued war in Ukraine.

The mind-blowing comments were made in the People’s Republic of China’s mouthpiece, The Global Times.

In a story titled, “more sanctions against Russia would further harm Europe, ‘keep crisis (sic) from ending” it blasts the idea of imposing further boycotts on Russia as it claims the move is part of a US plan.

“To keep the Russia-Ukraine crisis a long way from ending is a clear goal of the US and Western countries as the US and the EU are considering more sanctions against Russia after the unverified alleged ‘war crimes’ in Bucha were exposed,” it said.

Already Russia has been hit with huge economic punishments and hundreds of private companies have stopped working with the nation since the invasion on February 20, 2022.

The European Union has flagged future sanctions, with the US and NATO nations likely to follow, after allegations of war crimes were levelled at Russia.

Horrific images have surfaced after Russians attacked the town of Bucha near Kyiv. The United Nations will send a team of investigators to observe the area under the suspicion that war crimes were committed during the Russian assault.

Further, in Global Times’ story, it includes quotes from Chinese university experts who claim the sanctions will benefit the US.

Renmin University of China director of the institute of international affairs Wang Yiwei said hostility between Russia and Ukraine favours the US ‘playbook’.

Xiamen University director of energy economics research Lin Boqiang attempted to explain how the western countries would benefit.

“In any case, the US must be the big winner in the Russia-EU tension. The US has been trying to sell its shale gas to the EU. It couldn’t sell its gas before because the price was too high,” said Lin.

Australia does not get out of the story scot-free, with the story mentioning the role Australian natural gas can play in supplying the EU for a ‘short time’.

The Global Times story ignores the fact that Vladimir Putin destroyed the peace in Europe by invading Ukraine. His initial goal was to overrun the nation and dispose of its government.

The story was published as western nations consider a slew of new sanctions.

European Commission head Ursula von der Leyen said their proposal of future sanctions includes:

  • A ban on coal imports worth $6.9b a year, and a full ban on four Russian banks including Russia's second-biggest bank VTB
  • A ban on Russian ships entering EU ports (with some exemptions) and on Russian and Belarusian road transport operators
  • Bans on EU exports in advanced semiconductors and machinery worth $17b and other EU imports on wood and cement, seafood and alcohol.
  • Russian companies would also be barred from taking part in competing for contracts across the EU.
