A disturbing video has emerged of four women falsely accused of witchcraft being brutally tortured in Papua New Guinea.

The footage shows at least four naked women tied up, burned, and beaten while being prodded with hot wire and interrogated by a group of machete-wielding men.

The women were accused of sorcery after a young man fell ill in August in the Enga province, and social-media posts say the women were accused of “invisibly” taking the man’s heart, the Guardian reports.

The attackers, allegedly relatives of the deceased man — whose body lies on its back in the background — interrogate the women as to the location of the man’s heart. It is not clear from the video if he is dead or just unconscious.

“Talk out, where did you put it?” one man demands in the recording, which was uploaded to YouTube by the Commission for Social Concerns, Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Papua New Guinea.

“Burn her with the wire,” another says.

“I didn’t eat it! Why are you doing this to me? I was at home cooking food. I didn’t do it,” screams the woman who is tortured most by the group.

“I’ve got nothing to do with it,” pleads another woman. “I am a mother with five children.”

“There’s no real way they can prove themselves innocent,” a source told Guardian Australia. “Once they’re suspected they’re basically done for, they’ll be tortured and maybe killed as well.”

The news outlet was unable to confirm accounts that one woman had died as a result of the trauma.

Witchcraft-related beatings and murder have long been a problem for the island-nation, with local government turning a blind eye.

In May, a Papua New Guinea woman was hacked to death after being accused of performing black magic, and in 2013 a 20-year-old woman was burned alive on similar charges.
