Death in Bali: Timeline of events

AUSTRALIAN woman Sara Connor and her British boyfriend David Taylor will face further police interrogations in relation to their alleged role in the death of a Bali police officer.

Prosecutors have now handed back a brief of evidence against he couple to police, with instructions to gain further statements from both suspects.

Denpasar Prosecutor’s office general crime division chief, Ketut Maha Agung has said additional statements from both Connor and Taylor were required before the case can proceed further.

He said other paperwork was also incomplete and prosecutors had given guidance to police on what needed to be done.

Connor, a mum of two from Byron Bay and her boyfriend, Taylor, have been in custody, detained as suspects, since April 19. Under Indonesian law, prosecutors give guidance on the brief of evidence and ultimately decide what charges are laid.

Police now have 14 days in which to complete the brief of evidence and hand it back to prosecutors. If the prosecutors are still not satisfied it can be returned numerous times.

“We have given guidance for the police today, to be used to complete the dossier,” Mr Agung said.

“There are many guidance for police to fix the dossier, judicial and material requirements to be completed,” he said.

Mr Agung said that paperwork needed to be completed, including copies of the suspect identities, evidence seizure receipts and search warrants.

Once prosecutors are satisfied the brief of evidence is complete the case will be brought to Denpasar District Court for trial.

Police have recommended that both be charged with murder of police officer Wayan Sudarsa, whose bloodied body was found on a Kuta beach in the early hours of August 17. He had suffered 17 head wounds and 42 wounds to his body altogether.

Connor denies any role in the killing, saying that she tried to break up a fight between her boyfriend and the police officer and was trying to separate the two men.

The fight is alleged to have broken out after Taylor accused the officer of stealing Connor’s handbag, which had gone missing on the beach that night.
