The passing of the late Queen Elizabeth II was a historic moment, and one that was commemorated in line with tradition at the first state funeral since 1965.

However, as much as it was dictated by tradition, sentiment was also part of the affair, with jewellery, songs and flowers used to pay tribute to the person, as well as the queen that she was.

Here, see the memorable, moving moments you may have missed from Queen Elizabeth II's funeral.

The floral arrangements were fit for a queen

1

The wreath featured myrtle, which had been used in the Queen’s wedding bouquet. It also had rosemary "for remembrance", English oak to "symbolise the strength of love,” and flowers picked from the palace gardens.

One of the Queen’s favourite songs was played

2

The hymn 'The Lord’s my Shepherd' was one of the late monarch’s favourites. It was also sung at the funeral of George VI, the Queen’s father, in 1952, and at her wedding to Prince Philip in 1947.

It was unusually quiet—thanks to a falcon

3

For the occasion, Westminster Abbey brought in a falcon, who had been at work since Thursday, to scare away the squawking pigeons.

The women all wore pearls

4

Pearls have a special significance to the royal family and are traditionally worn during mourning. Catherine, Princess of Wales, wore a four-strand necklace that belonged to Queen Elizabeth.

Princess Charlotte and her mother, Catherine, Princess of Wales, matched

5

They both wore pleated black dresses that hit at the knee, and black brimmed hats.

Young Princess Charlotte wore a special brooch

6

The third in line to the throne, Princess Charlotte, also wore a small diamond brooch in the shape of a horseshoe, a tribute to her great grandmother's love for horses.

Brothers walked side by side

7

While Prince William wore his military uniform, Prince Harry wore a morning suit due to protocol preventing non-working members of the royal family from donning military attire for state occasions.

There was a meaningful procession

8

The State Gun Carriage carrying the Queen’s coffin has also been previously used for the funerals of King Edward VII, King George V, King George VI, Winston Churchill, and Lord Mountbatten.
