New Monster truck hits Aussie roads

Enormous US-style pick-up trucks are all the rage at the moment, and the latest one to hit our streets is bigger and badder than the rest.

The Ram 3500 American pick-up truck has arrived, promising monster towing capacity and load lugging ability.

This mass of torque allows for a max braked towing capacity of 8000kg, which is the same as the Ram 2500 and 2000kg more than the rival Chevrolet Silverado HD.

To put all this in perspective Australia’s favourite ute, the smaller Toyota HiLux can only tow up to 3500kg and has a payload of about one tonne.

Being Australia’s strongest ute doesn’t come cheap. The 3500 is priced from $162,950 (before on-road costs), which is about the same as two Ford Ranger Raptors.

But don’t let its rugged looks fool you. The 3500 still comes with a touch of luxury - the leather front seats with suede inserts have a heating and cooling function and there are soft touch materials used throughout the cabin.

Ram Trucks are proving to be a success in Australia. More than 2800 vehicles have found a home this year, which is an increase of 13 per cent compared to 2020.
