Step aside Hamptons – this design style is what Aussie renovators and home builders want most right now.

No matter where people live in Australia, residents are keen to foster their at-home relationship with the coast, as ‘Coastal Hues’ emerges as the 2022 home design style of choice.

'Coastal Hues'

The relaxed, beachy vibe of ‘Coastal Hues’ has taken the place of the ever-popular Hamptons as Australian home designers favoured style.

More than a quarter of Aussies are aiming for a coastal take on their home, according to Stockland’s new Dreamcatcher tool.

That means “bright, open spaces, crisp white walls, warm timber flooring, natural jute, vibrant greenery and layer upon layer of organic linen”, according to Stockland.

'Coastal-style living'

Sophie Pickett-Heaps, Co-Head of Design at Stockland says there is the strong desire for a more “Coastal style of living, with its light and airy feel, earth tones, warm timber floors, reminiscent of long lazy afternoons by the beach”.

This has come out as the key favourite, truly epitomising the Australian lifestyle whether you live in Manly or Marsden Park.

Of the almost 85,000 Australians who used the Dreamcatcher tool, 27 per cent leaned towards ‘Coastal Hues’ as their preferred design and style trend, followed by ‘Hamptons Retreat’ and ‘Urban Edit’.

Coastal Hues - 27%

Hamptons Retreat - 24%

Urban Edit - 19%

In terms of palette preferences, the natural look of timbers was the favourite, followed by white and then grey.
