How to prevent soreness from your gym workout

Words: Mitchell Van HomrighProducer: Issey Gogoll

With summer just around the corner, more Aussies are hitting the gym. Here’s a few tips to prevent soreness from your workouts.

1. EAT A NUTRITIOUS DIET

Eat a diet that is high in protein and micronutrients, such as leafy greens. Have a bit of fat and healthy carbs. This will help replenish your body so you recover faster after your workout.

2. MYOFASCIAL RELEASE

Myofascial release is stretching, using a foam roller or a massage gun to help release your muscles. This will save you from being sore, stiff and tired.

3. MASSAGE THERAPIES

Try a massage, acupuncture, and or an infra-red sauna. This helps release your muscles and support that lymphatic system.

4. HYDRATE

One of the biggest reasons people are sore is because they're dehydrated. Make sure you drink a lot of water, and in some cases, consider a hydrolyte and or coconut water.

5. MICRONUTRIENTS

Micronutrients are one of the major groups of nutrients your body needs. They include vitamins and minerals. The main one for muscle recovery is magnesium.

After your workout, foodssuch as cherries, eggs, turmeric and salmon can help prevent soreness due to the vitamins and micronutrients they possess.
