Facebook’s new name mercilessly mocked online

Words: Matthew MurphyProducer: Issey Gogoll

Social media users have wasted no time giving Facebook’s rebranding a big thumbs down, with its new name ‘Meta’ mercilessly mocked online.

this all happened because zuckerberg never meta girl until college

Instead of Facebook changing its policies to protect children and our democracy it has chosen to simply change its name to Meta. Different name, same threat to our nation.

Misinformation Exemplified To All#Meta #Facebook

CEO Mark Zuckerberg revealed the new name and logo at its annual Connect conference, saying it showed the company’s focus on developing the metaverse.

Mr Zuckerberg says the name Facebook doesn’t fully encompass everything the company does now, and is still closely linked to one product.

But the rebrand hasn’t gone down well online, with many saying Facebook should focus on changing the company’s culture.

Facebook and Instagram have taken a hit in recent years and have become synonymous with privacy breaches, election interfering, online bullying, as well as misinformation and fake news.

The drastic transformation comes as whistleblower Frances Haugen leaked internal documents and gave damning testimony to US senators in which she said Facebook put “astronomical profits before people”.

Ms Haugen secretly copied thousands of pages of Facebook internal research which she says shows the company is lying to the public about making significant progress against hate, violence and misinformation.

Facebook critics are now arguing the company is aiming to distract from the recent scandals and controversy.
