Dave Chappelle responds to trans jokes controversy

Comedian Dave Chappelle says he won’t be apologising for his new Netflix special, The Closer, after accusations of transphobia.

Chappelle has been embroiled in a furore since its release, in which he made comments many found offensive towards the transand LGBTQI communities.
The controversy has led to internal ructions within Netflix, resulting in an employee walkout in protest of the special, for which Chappelle was paid $32 million.
The controversy was further fuelled after Chappelle took aim at Aussie comedian Hannah Gadsby.
Chappelle said he’s happy to meet with members of the trans community if they “admit Hannah Gadsby is not funny”.
Gadsby was dragged into the Chappelle drama when Netflix co-chief executive Ted Sarandos invoked her name as part of his defence of the streamer’s actions.
