Aussie’s takedown after Conor deletes bizarre ‘shart’ attack

In one of the most dramatic fights of the year, Alex Volkanovski proved his critics wrong and left a gallant Brian Ortega bloodied and beaten. And after the fight, he took down Conor McGregor, too.

The mouthy Irishman took to Twitter after Volkanovski’s win at UFC 266: McGregor later deleted the tweet and replaced it:

Volkanovski was asked about the tweets, with commentators suggesting it was because the Aussie had beaten the two greatest featherweights ever, Jose Aldo and Max Holloway. But Volkanovski came back with his own theory.

After defending his UFC featherweight belt and claiming a 20th-straight win, the Australian gave a mouthy response.

Volkanovski is Australia’s only current UFC champion and has already established himself as one of the best fighters on the planet.

Volkanovski still had his doubters heading into the bout, but his performance quickly changed the tone on Twitter.

The doctor and referee both went to check and clear Ortega before the start of the fourth round following the beat down he received in the closing seconds of the third round.

“He’s a zombie (Ortega). He walks through strikes that most guys can’t take.That third round was madness. One of the best featherweight title fights we’ve ever seen. You’re a terminator, Alexander Volkanovski.”

Ortega admitted he thought he had Volkanovski finished in the third round during his submission attempt.

“I thought it was done, I was trying to go for his head but that little bastard is fing tough as hell. I wrapped on that neck, I tried to squeeze it, trust me, I tried to finish him... I heard him gargling and he slipped out. I was like: ‘F, this guy is the champ for a reason.”
