IT’S the epitome of sky-high extravagance, but it seems the world’s tallest tower the Burj Khalifa just isn’t outrageous enough for some.

If designers have their way, the impressive 828 metre-high Burj, which features a whopping 160 storeys and towers over the rest of Dubai, will soon be covered in a cling wrap-like fabric!

The bizarre and radical plan was announced by Dubai-based designers OP-EN, who want to wrap the building in a lightweight, reflective and semitransparent fabric, all in the name of art.

While there are currently few details available regarding the plan, the company says the superstructure and its surroundings would be reflected in the casing.

The strangest skyscrapers ever

“In the spirit of exploring creative potential in the public realm, Exo-Burj aims to create a fluid urban ambience by suspending a reflective fabric material around the 828m tower, complementing the structure’s reflective facade,” the designers wrote.

“The end-result would amplify the visual perspectives of the city’s skyline, augment the tower’s symbol as an urban centre of gravity and create an artistic atmosphere on a vast architectural scale.”

Ahmed Salman from OP-EN said the plan was in the development stage, and they have been meeting with interested parties.
