But each photograph here was taken on the humble iPhone, demonstrating the revolutionary impact of Steve Jobs' masterpiece.
GALLERY: iPhone Photography Awards 2013
In 2007 Apple unveiled its first iPhone, and photography changed forever. Seven years later, amateur and professional photographers around the world can create stunning images with their iPhones, as the winners of this year's iPhone Photography Awards convincingly demonstrate.
The winning iPPA entry is Holly Welsey's beautiful image of a white horse, with other winners in categories such as Still Life, Animals and Travel.
Kim Hanskamp's stunning People category award winner echoes Steve McCurry's iconic National Geographic Afghan Girl cover.
Every photo featured here was snapped on an iPhone, iPod or iPad: showing that mobile devices can rival much more expensive cameras.
Photos can be edited on the phone via apps such as Hipstamatic, but not on computers using Photoshop.
The competition has been running seven years and received thousands of entries in 2013.
