Woolies ‘ultimate’ cruise cabin hack goes viral

An Aussie woman has revealed the “ultimate” cruise hack, claiming it will “change your life”.
One thing that can often be annoying when on a cruise is waiting around for dirty dishes to be replaced.
But avid Aussie cruiser Olivia, who goes by the TikTok handle ‘cruising insiders’, has shared what she describes as a “game-changing” hack that will make your cruising experience that much better.
All you need is a cheap sponge – she bought hers for a $1.60 from Woolies – dishwashing liquid and a reusable ziplock bag.
In a now-viral clip that has clocked almost one million views, Olivia explained she stumbled across the handy hack on YouTube and was surprised to discover it actually worked.
“Go to your local supermarket and purchase the cheapest sponge you can find or use a sponge you have already got at home,” she began.
“Once you’ve done this, grab one to two sponges and cut them into little squares.
“Place them all on a plate, grab dishwashing liquid and make sure you drizzle it over sponge squares (evenly).”
She then advised to take it outside and place the squares in the sun so they dry.
“You want the dishwashing liquid to dry into the sponge,” she said.
Olivia then demonstrated how it worked – taking one of the squares, running it under water and using it to wash the dirty dishes.
“Instead of having to wait for your mugs, plates, cutlery in your state room or cabin to be replaced every day or cleaned, if you are staying in a cabin with multiple people and they need to use it, you can (now) clean it so easily in no time.”
She said the squares can be used multiple times before the dishwashing liquid is completely used up.
“It will last for about a two-week cruise; it’s fantastic,” she said.
Olivia’s clip has attracted hundreds of comments from cruisers thanking her for the tip.
“That’s actually really good,” one TikTok user wrote.
“Thanks! Doing this with the wine glasses,” said another.
Others said it was a great idea for hotel rooms and camping.
“I won’t use the [hotel] drinking glasses but I would if I applied this idea,” one person said.
However, while many were impressed, some wondered why she was washing dishes on a holiday.
“Great idea but no … hahahaha,” one TikTok user wrote.
“Girl, we’re not going on a cruise to do the dishes … margaritas and mojitos don’t go into cups,” another joked.
A third said: “No thank you! I prefer not to do dishes when I’m on vacation. I will have them bring me clean plates or cups. I’m not working for them.”
Olivia explained she tried the hack on a recent Royal Caribbean cruise because they didn’t replace the mugs often enough.
“It was [also] handy when I was in isolation,” she added.
Another cruiser said it comes in handy when you get a reusable cruise cup.
“I put different drinks in it so I wanted to wash it,” they wrote.
