United Airlines flight that promised to help celebrate New Year’s Eve twice is delayed to New Year’s Day
A flight that promised passengers the chance to celebrate New Year’s Eve suffered a big setback.
A United Airlines flight that promised passengers the chance to celebrate New Year’s Eve a second time was delayed past the night’s celebrations.
The flight was scheduled from the US territory Guam to Honolulu in Hawaii, leaving at 7.35am on January 1 and arriving at 6.50pm, December 31.
“You only live once, but you can celebrate New Year’s Eve twice!” the airline wrote on social media, adding that “time travel is real” on their Instagram post.
But it was not to be, with the flight being delayed over 6 hours to leave at 2pm, meaning it would arrive past 1am on New Year’s Day.
The final flight left at 1:49pm, arriving at 12:34am, just after the New Year started.
Many went online to voice their complaints at the company.
“Great idea, too bad it got delayed!” X user Dan Fisch wrote, attaching the alert he received.
“I booked this flight specifically so I could do this,” user Calvin wrote. “I’m dissatisfied with how this was promoted but not being delivered.”
“Planned our entire vacation [around] it for a year,” user John Gasquet said.

I was supposed to be on this flight. Double new year isnât happening anymore ð¢.
Maybe next year? pic.twitter.com/mjfeKfIacv
United Airlines offered rebooking assistance to Mr Fisch, to which a sceptical X user asked if the next flight would travel back in time.
New Years “time travel” flights aren’t uncommon, with many carrying on the tradition every year.
“I’ve done this many times!” one user said on Instagram. “I did this on my birthday and was able to celebrate it 3 times,” another said.
“Sorry for those missing out on a double new year,” one later comment read. “Maybe next year!!!”
