Tourists obsessed with Lucky Bay in Western Australia
No, it’s not Bondi. Tourists have discovered a different Aussie beach which they have described as “insane”. Do you know it?
While the entire country is known for having spectacular beaches, it’s the pristine shoreline of Esperance that continues to leave tourists in awe.
The WA town sits on the edge of the Southern Ocean and is surrounded by epic stretches of beach, with sand so white it shimmers in the sunlight.
You will find the beaches just a short drive along the coast in the Cape Le Grand National Park.
One of them is Lucky Bay, one of the most impressive areas in the national park.
The wide bay is fringed by a white sand beach and granite outcrops and is also home to resident friendly kangaroos — and tourists are obsessed.
It also topped the World’s 50 Best Beaches list for 2023 and there’s no surprises why with tourists raving about its stunning and pristine turquoise waters.
“Walking along the best beach in the world …. Wow,” one TikTok user wrote as she shared footage walking along the 5km sand stretch.
Another tourist shared a clip showing four kangaroos hopping along the white sand.
“Wait for it – Have you heard of this famous beach before,” she asked.
A tourist from the UK also singled out Twilight beach, about 40 minutes from Lucky Bay.
“My recommendation is to stop at every beach along the way, because every beach is as beautiful,” Fay said in a TikTok.
“Our favourite was Twilight beach. I kid you not the water is actually this colour. It’s insane.
“One thing you may not know about Esperance is it can get incredibly windy.”
She said while it might be beautiful and sunny, it would “also be blowing its absolute head off”.
The Brit, who was travelling with a friend in a van along the coast, also headed to Lucky Bay and was equally as impressed.
“We got there quite early in the morning and set up for the day,” she said. “It's also quiet in the morning so you have the whole space to yourself.
“Again I can’t express how beautiful the water is here, it’s absolutely insane.”
She said while Lucky Bay is known for having kangaroos, she unfortunately didn’t see any during her visit last year.
“So that was a bit sad, but you are lucky if you do see any. It’s also the most beautiful sunset spot.”
Apart from just going for a dip, it’s also known for being a great spot for diving, canoeing and camping.
Lucy Bay was voted the best beach in the world.
To come up with their ranking, the World’s 50 Best Beaches site enlisted the help of more than 750 travel journalists, experts and influencers.
“Lucky Bay is not only the most pristine beach you’ll ever lay eyes on, it has resident friendly kangaroos that visit the beach daily. They are wild kangaroos though very tame and you’ll easily be able to snap photos with them,” travel blogger Helen Janneson-Bense said.
According to the Worlds 50 Best beaches site the best time to visit in mid-December to late March.
“The summers are warm and dry in Esperance, but in general, this area doesn’t get a lot of rain even in winter,” it explains.
“To make the most out of your visit to Lucky Bay, we suggest that you pack your camping gear and try to secure a beachfront spot in the area.
“This way, you can enjoy the glorious sun, meet the kangaroos early before it becomes crowded, and marvel at the most phenomenal star-gazing at night.”
