Tourist roasted after mocking Aussie seat design

A tourist has lashed out at an “incomprehensible” Australian design and it appears they did not get the response they were hoping for.

A tourist has taken to social media for an explanation on Australia’s “incomprehensible” bus benches facing “the wrong way”.

“As a foreigner this is by far the most incomprehensible bit of design I’ve seen in Australia,” the person wrote along with a picture of a bench at a Sydney bus stop facing away from the road. “Can anyone explain why on earth the bus stop benches face the wrong way?”

Australians in the comments were shocked the answer was not obvious.

“So children and the elderly/disabled don’t fall straight off the seat into traffic,” one person responded, with the comment attracting 1800 supporters on Reddit.

“And possibly also drunk people,” added another.

“Or trip when they get up to get on an approaching bus and fall onto the road in front of it,” wrote a third.

“Also grocery bags falling don’t have a chance of disrupting traffic, or accidentally getting someone killed,” provided a fourth.

Many pointed out that when a bench was seen facing the road it was because there was ample space for safety.

“Haha op (original poster) looking for validation shut down by so many excellent logical answers,” someone savagely wrote.

“Do you not use your neck like 99 per cent of the rest of the population?” another added.

Other users suggested the poster had been wrong to assume it was even a bus bench, claiming it was a sidewalk bench used for anyone walking by.
