These are the worst meals in the world
It’s gobsmacking these dishes were actually served in a restaurant – and those who have survived them are here to warn the rest of us.
The disappointment that comes from receiving a rubbish meal in a restaurant is one of the most acute forms of distress you can experience as a food-loving adult.
Especially if that woeful meal comes when you are on an international holiday that you’ve been looking forward to for a long time.
We’ve done a deep dive into the internet and found some of the worst reviewed dishes from around the globe. They will make your home-cooked meals look like Michelin-starred cuisine (and will take a little bit of the sting out of not being able to travel overseas at the moment).
Strap in. Things are about to get ugly.
The picture above is, allegedly, of a bowl of ramen. With an entire dead fish floating in it. And two roughly cut slabs of tofu. It’s difficult to conjure a more unappetising dish.
The review of the eatery in Japan read: “So disgusting it’s completely inedible. Even the staff serving it gagged at its malevolently malodorous stench.”
If you’re going to splurge on a burger, you want it to be pretty damn good. What we have here is not pretty damn good. In fact, the reviewer on Tripadvisor didn’t mince words, saying “WORST FOOD I EVER HAD”. This comes from Susie’s Branding Iron Restaurant in Utah. They get points for the one bit of red in the salad though.
This is an absolutely huge call, but this might be the worst thing to ever come out of a bain marie. The Kraft Singles slapped on some (definitely limp) chips does not make one rub one’s tummy with glee. The Yelp review for this restaurant in Iowa said “only eat here if you absolutely have to”.
Word on the street is there is actually some spaghetti served with this white sauce. Good thing they provided a spoon with it. It’s more like soup with a little pasta in it.
This was served up in Lucky Bar in Hanoi, Vietnam, with the reviewer on Tripadvisor writing “stopped here for lunch by mistake …”.
The review “eat here if you hate yourself” is all sorts of amazing.
They say “the first bite is with the eye”, which is a phrase the people at Ruben’s Taco Truck in Los Angeles have clearly never encountered. The review on Tripadvisor that accompanied this photo simply reads: “My Fish Taco Smells Sooo Bad a Cat won’t eat it!”
This looks like a kid's attempt at making breakfast on Mother's Day. But no, this was served up at Denny's in Glasgow. To add insult to injury, this person copped a 100 pound parking fine while eating this, according to the Tripadvisor review. Brutal.
It is very unclear what is on this plate. That brown sauce looks like it has absolutely no business being there. Is that gravy with fish? And rice? And pickled ginger? Whatever is going on here, it’s dire.
One reviewer who worked at a Long John Silver’s said the floors were so greasy, he had to purchase new shoes.
You kind of have a begrudging respect for the fast food cook who has clearly thought “I’m not paid enough to be bothered cutting that fish down to size”. This comes from A&W restaurant in the US.
The reviewer wrote: “I at there about 3 hours ago. I now have diarrhoea. As far as Chinese buffets go, this one is pretty good.”
That is *quite* the plot twist.
This is “American Chop Suey” served at a restaurant in India. A writer at GQ Trippin’ wrote “Gerard braved the menu and ordered this Chinese fried noodles with veggies, gravy and a fried egg dish. Not his brightest menu decision I’m afraid.”
Viceroy’s in Majorca, Spain, is to be avoided at all costs according to this Tripadvisor reviewer. This looks like a murder scene on a plate. No bueno.
