One thing Aussie had to stop doing in London

An Aussie woman living in London has revealed the one thing she’s stopped doing as it’s not as well received in the UK as it is in Australia.
Saying ‘good morning’ to passerbyers on your morning walk or jog is a common act Down Under – just ask British singer Kat Penkin who was left shocked by the Aussie habit during a recent visit to Perth.
“I’m in Australia right now and I forgot exactly how nice Australians are,” she said in a clip.
“Every single person that walks past goes ‘good morning, how are you, good morning’.”
However, it’s an act that Brisbane influencer Emily Brogan has had to pull back on since moving to London 10 months ago.
In a viral clip, Emily said while she “loves” living in the bustling British city, she’s had to stop smiling and greeting people she passes on walks.
“In Australia, it is very common to say, ‘Morning’, ‘G’day’ to every second person on your hot girl walk. Could be Ted Bundy and I’d be like, ‘Oh, you right there?’,” she said in a TikTok.
“I learnt my lesson the first few weeks, I’d just be friendly smiling at men, women, whoever, it was as if I was saying, ‘F*** you’, ‘F*** you’, ‘F*** you’ or they’d literally give me the biggest resting b**** face.”
Emily said she now dons an unfriendly expression due to her experiences and also claimed it’s because she gets harassed by men.
She said she doesn’t risk smiling at anyone for fear of attracting unwanted attention.
“I am that paranoid about being harassed, the men in London, they are something different, let me tell you,” she added.
Emily’s clip has clocked more 2.8 million views and unsurprisingly attracted thousands of comments from Brits defending their country with many pointing out people are friendlier in rural England than they are in big cities like London.
“This is just London vs the rest of UK. I live in northeast England and we say hello to each other all the time,” one Brit wrote.
“Just a London thing! Us northerners are friendlier,” another wrote.
A third person also agreed: “That’s just London girl. We aren’t like that in the Midlands.”
A fourth person added: “Echoing most people’s comments, up north we all say hello and acknowledge each other while out and about.”
Meanwhile, in the clip Emily also explained how she’s developed ‘the worst caffeine addiction’ since moving to the UK as cafes are open much later than in Australia.
“I’ll be walking home from work and I’m like, ‘I might get a coffee for s***s and gigs’, I mean, what am I going home to do?” she said.
“This is a real pro of the cafes here, I mean they do open later which is annoying because I feel like most people here are more night owls than morning people but I love that for me.”
She also joked she has an umbrella collection after being caught in an unexpected downpour too many times.
“The weather man is like, ‘Nah she’ll be right, she’ll be sunny’ … and 10 minutes into being outside I find out the weatherman has been telling porky pies. I do have trust issues now,” she joked.
Others were shocked at how early Aussie coffee shops close and agreed with Emily’s umbrella habit.
“Omg you can’t get a coffee past 5pm in Australia? Damn! As a Canadian, I’m shook!” one person wrote.
“I physically refuse to believe that London weather is worse then Melbourne weather,” an Aussie added.
