Italian tourist shocked by Aussie food items in Woolies
An Italian tourist has shared a clip of the Aussie food items that would send “Italians into a coma” – and some Aussies agree.
An Italian tourist has shared a humorous video of the Aussies food items that would send “Italians into a coma” – including tinned spaghetti.
Sofia Saccone recently visited a local Woolies store in the Gold Coast where she was shocked to discover some of the products on the shelves.
In a TikTok that has garnered hundreds of comments, Ms Saccone pointed out all the things she loves, such as Mars pods and Carmamilk, asking why it’s not available in Italy.
But she was equally stunned when she came across certain foods such as a four-pack of tinned of SPC Tomato and Cheese Spaghetti and Heinz Spaghetti with Meatballs — and not in a good way.
“Guys, this is so bad. I cannot even explain how bad it is,” she said about the SPC item.
“And another one,” she continued as she held up the Heinz tin. “And there is even a piece of bread,” she laughed, referring to the photo on the Heinz Spaghetti and Sausages.
But when an Aussie commented that tinned spaghetti and cheese in a toasted sandwich “so good”, she said she was willing to try it.
“You know what, I’m gonna trust you and I’ll try it!” she responded.
Although when it came to supermarket-brand mozzarella and pastas, she didn’t approve.
She questioned whether the mozzarella was “real” and labelled the various supermarket pastas as “awful”.
“If you’re an Italian living in Australia, never try the Woolies or Coles pasta,” she demanded.
She also said mac and cheese is “so bad” and she would never buy it.
Ms Saccone then drew her attention to a row full of gravy, telling viewers she doesn’t know what it is.
“I don’t know why but Australia loves all these sauces,” she said while pointing to the Gravox range of premade gravy.
It was no surprise she wasn’t a fan of McCain Vegemite pizza — or Vegemite in general, but she did rave about Woolies garlic bread.
And as for sweet treats, she approved of Cadbury Caramilk chocolate, which she wished was available in Italy.
“Guys I cannot explain how good these things are try it,” she said, holding up a packet of Mars pods.
Ms Saccone’s video has since been viewed more than 160,000 with some Aussies backing her views.
“A lot of Australians don’t eat that stuff. Except tinned spaghetti, if u eat it in a jaffle with cheese it’s amazing! It’s not spaghetti but it’s good,” one woman wrote.
A second said: “As a full blooded Aussie I can agree with everything except the tin spaghetti, it’s so good on toast just don’t confuse with real spaghetti.”
Others continued to encourage the tourist to try tinned spaghetti at least once.
“I don’t even think of that tinned ‘ spaghetti ‘ as spaghetti … more of a delicious mush I put on toast,” said another.
“Tinned spaghetti ain’t about the spaghetti, it’s about the experience. That’s a tin of childhood right there,” a fourth added.
Another joked: “Hear me out though, tinned spaghetti in a jaffle slapss!”
Ms Sacconi was open to trying all the recommendations and pointed out the video was just for fun.
“I like doing the grocery at Woolworths! I can find everything that I need, it’s just something you find strange things (sic),” she told a viewer, adding a laughing emoji.
“This video is just for fun and for show the most strange things that we don’t have in Italy.”
