‘Is she alive?’: Woman’s swim in New York’s Hudson River goes viral | Video
A blogger’s “disgusting” video in New York has gone viral, with viewers concerned for the young woman’s health after she went for a quick dip.
A blogger’s swim in the Hudson River has gone viral, with viewers “horrified” the young woman went for a dip, warning she will probably be in for a nightmare of potential health problems.
Donna Paysepar, 20, posted a number of video clips on social platform TikTok of herself diving and leaping off a boat into murky water with the Statue of Liberty in the background last week.
Ms Paysepar – who was visiting the river on a boat with friends and family – reportedly took the plunge for clicks, despite the gruesome history that the waters are associated with raw sewage, dead bodies and centuries of pollution.
While some joked the young blogger will probably turn into a “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle” others have expressed their concerns over her health.
“This is a death sentence,” a Twitter user wrote. “You might want to visit a hospital sometime soon.
“You couldn’t pay me to do this,” another added. “You’re gonna grow a third leg.”
According to the New York Post, Ms Paysepar got so slammed for taking a swim in the Hudson, that she was forced to post a later video in which she recited facts about the river’s water quality – and promised to head to see a doctor’s “soon”.
Citing the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation’s website about the river, the blogger said: “Is the water clean? Swimmable? The results are mixed.”
But “swallowing a few mouthfuls of river water does not significantly expose a person to these pollutants,” she added of the Hudson’s contamination.
The food blogger seems to have got the attention she wanted it to receive, with more than three million views on TikTok and millions more on Twitter alone.
“I was really excited that I finally came to the Statue of Liberty,” she said in the follow-up video.
“I had never been up that close and I’m just like you know what, YOLO. I wasn’t thinking about the water, I just wanted to take a cool TikTok jumping in the water.”
As you’d expect, Ms Paysepar said the brown-coloured water “tasted really bad” and that she probably wouldn’t jump in again as the water was so “gross”.
