Influencer’s holiday photos exposed over ‘spooky’ detail

A blogger has admitted to Photoshopping her stunning travel photos after fans noticed a “spooky” detail in the snaps.

How Instagram is ruining holidays

A blogger has been left bemused by people’s reactions when she admitted to Photoshopping her travel photos after they went viral over a spooky pattern.

Tupi Saravia from Buenos Aires in Argentina, shares with her 278,000 Instagram followers incredible photos of her travels around the world.

Recently those photos went viral after someone noticed the same cloud appeared in her photos wherever in the world she was.

“No matter where you travel, it is always followed by the same cloud,” @SantiLishi tweeted, along with a selection of photos of Saravia in various destinations with the exact same cloud formation behind her.

Social media commentator Matt Navarra also picked up on the pattern: “This travel ‘influencer’ spookily has the same clouds in every photo,” he tweeted, along with photos of Saravia in Bali, Italy and Thailand — all with the same clouds in the background.

It would be spooky if real. But when contacted by BuzzFeed News after the photos went viral, Saravia confirmed they were edited.

“I used an app called Quickshot to help the composition of the photograph when the sky is burned or overexposed,” she said, adding she’d made no secret of Photoshopping her photos to her Instagram followers.

“They (her followers) were always aware about this because I never hide it,” she said.

“I always tell (them) the apps I use.

“Actually, I’m the first one to tell the joke the clouds are following me around the world.”

She added: “I really don’t see the big deal (here), I never lied about it. I haven’t done anything wrong, and it was never my intention.”

But many people appeared disappointed by Saravia’s choice to digitally alter her holiday photos.

“To be serious for a sec, isn’t this kinda strange behaviour?” someone commented.

“It goes to prove that the digital world and the real world really are night and day. I’m becoming more and more cynical (getting old!!) towards online ‘influencers’ — I think it’s a bubble, that will eventually go pop.”

Another said: “This really bums me out. There’s so many people who want what she has: a fabricated online reality.”

“Why we end here on social media!? Faking all the photos!?” someone else commented. “I can point other users doing this, as a photographer I can’t stand this.”

Saravia told BuzzFeed she repeatedly used the same cloud picture as she “happened to like that one”.
