Heartwarming moment Jetstar flight attendant gets proposal surprise at Sydney Airport

A Jetstar flight attendant got the surprise of her life when she stepped off a plane at Sydney Airport this week.

Jetstar flight attendant’s big surprise

A Jetstar flight attendant got “the biggest shock of [her] life” after landing in Sydney Airport this week.

Mel Robson’s partner David Young was standing at the gate asking her to be his wife and the “evil stepmother” to his two adult children.

Ms Robson, 46, and Mr Young, 58, met on a dating app during 2021 Covid lockdowns in Sydney.

“We just talked for months because we couldn’t even meet up,” the Jetstar hostie of 16 years told news.com.au.

“Our first date was my car service because it was the only opportunity I had to leave the house.”

Flash forward a couple of years and Ms Robson happened to be talking to fellow cabin crew members about her favourite peanut butter cookie from Max Brenner, and how Mr Young always gives her the chocolate chip chunks from the top of his cookie.

“I was telling that story and I said to them that day ‘now that’s a person I could marry,’” she said.

Little did Ms Robson know, he would propose the same day – a moment he had planned for more than a month.

“That was a complete surprise. I had no idea. The first thing I saw was one of my best friends standing there,” Ms Robson explained.

Mr Young had recruited her friend to distract her while the rest of the crew got out of the way of the proposal. She claimed she was doing work experience.

“She works for the fireys,” she said, adding she did get confused by the Jetstar high vis vest she was wearing but let it slide.

“She’s a bit random so it’s not unlike her to do something like that and show up out of the blue,” Ms Robson laughed.

“I don’t see her often so I was like ‘oh my god, what a surprise’ and then because I was all focused on her I didn’t even look to my right. I think that was all part of the plan.

“So I had no idea and then she physically turned me around and then that’s when it felt like a play-by-play slow mo … it was absolutely shocking.”

In footage of the moment, Ms Robson can be heard screaming: “OH – Oh my god.”

Mr Young told news.com.au they had talked about getting married and he wanted to make sure the proposal was “something special that she would never forget”.

He said he knew he would be able to surprise her as she gets off the aircraft last but he “didn’t expect all the passengers hanging around and filming”.

Mr Young’s children, aged 18 and 21, were also there for the proposal, holding up a sign: “We want you to be our evil stepmother – marry him!”.

Mr Young said he had watched the video of the moment about 1000 times since.

The couple explained the pink unicorn ring Ms Robson was given was an inside joke and they planned on going ring shopping together.
