Fury over ‘selfish’ dad’s plane act after he didn’t switch seats to sit with family

A father has been slammed after a passenger revealed he reportedly refused to sit with his family on a plane.
While passengers usually complain about having to give up their seat so a family can sit together — in this case it was the other way around.
A woman on a flight gladly offered up her spot so a dad could sit with his wife and kids, but to her shock, he sent another one of their kids instead.
His alleged act has sparked fury online about how “domestic and mental load” should be shared across both parents.
“I was seated next to a mum who had a baby in her lap and a toddler beside her,” a passenger said in a now viral TikTok.
“It was a lot. I offered to switch seats with the dad, who was a few rows up, so he could be with his family.
“He says, ‘great, thanks’ AND SENDS OVER ANOTHER SMALL KID TO SIT WITH THE MUM.
“He enjoyed a kid-free flight,” the woman said.
The footage was taken from an aisle seat and the family cannot be seen.
“A little Sunday rage for ya,” the caption read.
The clip has gone viral with more than 4.5 million views. It has sparked a heated debate as some sided with the dad.
“I think you can’t imagine the man in this situation possibly needed a break,” one man wrote.
“I think you hate men. I think you are full of yourself.”
“If they switched wouldn’t the kid be alone?” another wrote, while a third added: “What if he were the stay at home dad and mum was finally looking after the kids so he could have a break?”
The woman clarified she didn’t know there was a another child seated next to him and that he should have just refused altogether — and not send another child to the mother.
“The only reasonable option in this situation was for him to say, “No thank you. I’m actually sitting here with my other child. Thanks anyway’,” she said.
Others were left fuming by the dad’s “selfish” act.
“The absolute rage I am feeling right now,” one woman wrote.
“I’m a flight attendant and I’ve seen soooo many mothers looking after the kids the whole flight while the father sits away or doesn’t help. It’s crazy,” said another.
A third said: “I would have said no that’s not what I meant give me my seat back.”
After the post went viral, the woman was forced to record a follow-up clip “addressing the wilful confusion”.
“This post went pretty bonkers, but what strikes me most of all is how differently it’s received by men and women in the comments,” she said.
“The mental gymnastics that men will do to try defend this guy is unreal.”
The woman, who was also travelling with her own two kids, explained she was seated in 7D while the mum and her toddler were in 7F and 7E.
Meanwhile, the father was seated in 6C on the opposite side of the aisle on the row in front, while the woman’s kids were in 7C and 7D.
“All I know (right now) is that this woman boarded the plane holding a baby, with a toddler and carry on luggage that she was struggling to get above her head. So I helped her get it above and we sat down,” the woman continued.
“And this guy is yelling back at her. He’s asking for things and she’s quietly giving them to him and struggling.”
The woman guessed they must be a family and might not have been seated together — like her and her kids.
“I wasn’t exactly seated with mine – (so) it wasn’t weird. So no, I didn’t in any way make it seem as though it was a burden to be sitting next to her and the kids — I just said ‘oh sir did you want to be with your family – it was an obvious offer.
“He said ‘sure, that would be great’ and that’s when we stood up and shuffled the change and when he sent the kid from 6B to 7D.”
The woman said she wasn’t aware they had a third child and wish she had rescinded the offer, but was so shocked she fumbled.
In another clip she said she hopes “we can go deeper into the conversation of sharing the domestic + mental load across both parents”.
“Also and for the last freaking time: I DID NOT KNOW THERE WAS A 3rd KID! He should have simply declined.”
