Fury as plane passenger sings Christian songs to whole cabin

‘I would have opened the emergency exit’

A Singaporean man has been slammed by fellow passengers and social media users, after a video of him singing a Christian worship song while strumming his guitar on board a plane went viral.

The man, identified as Jonathan Neo, was on an easyJet flight when he sang to unsuspecting passengers mid-flight, according to local media reports.

The clip, which was posted by Jack Jensz Jr, was captioned: ‘We are taking this flight over for Jesus!’ which received around 31 million views in just two days.

In the now-viral video, several individuals could be seen joining Mr Neo in singing the song as he walked down the main aisle of the cabin.

But while the performers were hoping to bring joy aboard the aircraft, many of the passengers didn’t seem amused by the impromptu in-flight entertainment with many sitting stony-faced throughout.

Comments online especially pointed out the reaction of one man, saying he appeared annoyed as the music played, while others who viewed the scene said some look like they’d rather “jump” out of the plane.

“Poor guy in the green-and-blue plaid shirt: Figuratively, I am him. He is me,” one commenter said.

Another added: “Blue shirt guy is two seconds away from jumping out of the plane.”

“As a person of faith, I implore you: Don’t do this … This kind of thing just turns people off, and rightly so,” someone else commented

Another added: “It’s about courtesy and respect for others. Something you are obviously lacking in.”

Ilhan Omar, who is the United States representative for Minnesota’s 5th congressional district – and who is Muslim – tweeted the clip, questioning what the reaction would be if she and her family had a “prayer session” next time they are on a plane.

According to Fox News, several Republicans then ripped into Ms Omar over her tweet.

Some also questioned why the Christian group weren’t wearing masks.

“Why do you hate Christians, Ilhan? If the freedom of religion we enjoy here in America disturbs you, feel free to pack your bags and head back to Somalia, Sudan, or wherever you’re from. Take your brother with you,” tweeted Georgia congressional candidate Vernon Jones.

Republican Florida congressional candidate Jose Castillo said that “in America, Muslims can and do pray in public”.

Cicely Davis, who is seeking to defeat Ms Omar in Minnesota’s 5th Congressional District, also slammed her on Twitter, saying: “Qatar – a country you’re very familiar with – plays Islamic prayers on the intercom before takeoff on their planes.”

She added: “They have a designated prayer area and co-ordinates for Mecca are posted on the screens. It’s no problem. The issue is you hate Christians and Jews and lots of Muslims.”
