EasyJet passenger tries to cheat cabin bag restrictions

An easyJet passenger was left embarrassed after he tried to get away with something at check-in – only for it to backfire.

Man left red-faced at check in

An easyJet passenger found out the hard way what happens if you try to cheat cabin bag restrictions.

A video circulating on social media captured the moment a man tried to show his suitcase fit the restrictions – only for it to get stuck, The Sun reports.

The video posted on Reddit was captioned: “WCGW [what could go wrong] if you try to cheat with the baggage size.”

The passenger in the video was being questioned by easyJet to make his suitcase fit into the baggage holder.

The man sat on it to get it into the sizer but due to the force he put into it, the suitcase then got stuck.

The desperate passenger was forced to flip the sizer on its side to try to get it out, only for it to remain wedged inside.

Staff were then called over to try to remove the suitcase – and the video ends without it being freed.

Some people loved the man’s valiant efforts, with one person writing: “That’s no cheating, it did fit after all.”

Someone else agreed: “To be fair, airlines are f***ing atrocious when it comes to baggage sizes, so they deserve to get cheated.”

However, lots disagreed with his act.

“Just bring a backpack on board why do you need an entire … suitcase,” one person wrote.

A flight attendant chimed in, saying: “If I compare the amount of hand luggage being brought on board now and 14 years ago I am wondering if I work in passenger transport or for a cargo airline.”

The easyJet hand luggage rules changed in recent years, with the low-cost airline scrapping their free hand luggage last year.

Instead, easyJet passengers have to pay for a Flexi Fare to get free hand luggage, or pay for their luggage.

The easyJet website currently states: “Everyone can bring one small cabin bag per person on board for free.

“It can be a maximum size of 45 x 36 x 20 cm (including any handles or wheels) and needs to fit under the seat in front of you.

“If you’d also like to bring a large cabin bag on board (max. 56 x 45 x 25 cm, including any handles or wheels), you have the option to select an Up Front or Extra Legroom seat or book a large cabin bag for your flight.

“If you’re an easyJet Plus cardholder or customer who has booked a Flexi fare, you can also bring a large cabin bag on board (in addition to your small cabin bag) as part of your membership or fare benefits.”
