Expat’s dig at Aussie men divides

A young Canadian woman has shared a now viral clip detailing her culture shock after moving to Australia — including a harsh dig towards Aussie men.

In a TikTok, Jamison, 18, began by saying there are “way too many beautiful girls in Australia” before unleashing her harsh opinion of Aussie blokes.

“The men are lacking,” she said.

“Saying that I do have an Australian boyfriend and he’s not lacking but before him I was not into Australian boys whatsoever,” she said.

She then went on to explain how she found it tough to remember that Aussies refer to “gas” as “petrol” and how “stressful” the typical Aussie greeting of “How you going?” was when she first arrived two and a half years ago.

“Here you guys call petrol petrol, we call it gas, why?” she asked.

“And everyone says ‘how ya garn?’ And you’re supposed to answer ‘not bad yourself?’ or ‘how are you?’ It’s just a quick exchange, like it’s not trying to be a conversation,” she said.

“It’s stressful, like if you’re walking on the street and someone’s saying ‘how you going?’ you have to speak really fast like, ‘I’m good, how are you?’ and just keep walking.

“Like, Australians speak so fast.”

The young woman’s clip has garnered almost 300,000 views since she shared it last week with her comment about “Aussie men lacking” causing a huge stir.

“I SWEAR THE MEN REALLY DO LACK HERE! The rest of the world has an even ratio of beautiful men to women I swear,” one TikTok user wrote.

“100000% the men here are a 0.5,” a second person wrote, while a third joked: “I’ve lived in Australia my whole life and I’ve had enough of guys.”

Another added: “Also not from Australia and yes, men ARE lacking.”

But not everyone agreed, with many coming to the defence of our Aussie men.

“Whatever. Aussie actors are better. Chris Hemsworth over Ryan Reynolds!. next,” one annoyed Aussie wrote.

“Naaaa the men are definitely better looking,” another joked.

Meanwhile, regarding her Aussie greeting comment, some took the liberty to offer her advice on how best to approach it.

“Honestly with the ‘how’s it going’ just say ‘hey’ back. It’s usually more of a greeting than an actual question,” one person explained.

“Say ‘how ya goin’ straight back to them as soon as they ask you and the ball is back in their court straight away,” a second person suggested.
