‘Bad trip’: Tourist stunned by act in Thai hostel
A disorientated hostel guest caught on camera in a South-East Asian dorm room has sparked the age-old travellers debate.
Only in Bangkok …
Anyone who has backpacked through South-East Asia – or anywhere for that matter – has probably had an experience similar to this.
A video on TikTok shows a disorientated Bangkok hostel guest, in an arm cast and holding what appears to be a syringe, engaged in a completely nonsensical conversation with the filmer.
American TikTokker @rasputinjones posted the video which has since been viewed almost 600 thousand times.
“Stay in hostels they said. You’ll meet the coolest people,” he wrote facetiously.
“Came back from a night on the town and found this guy in the hostel bed next to me.”
The video shows a man, who also sounds American, in a bed across the room asking “where am I right now?”
“Bangkok,” the TikTokker responds.
The man, with a syringe in hand, continues to ask where he is.
He appears completely confused, questioning how he came to be in the room.
“I don’t know, dude,” the man filming tells the lost soul.
The man begins to make choking noises before revealing he was just trying to pronounce “Bangkok”.

The video of the man’s “bad trip” sent the platform into a frenzy, sparking the age-old hostel versus hotel debate.
“Bro luxury hotels are like $60 (USD) a night over there. I’ll spend the money,” one wrote.

“There’s a difference between travelling and vacationing, if you’re long term travelling hostels are the move,” another responded.
“If you’re travelling solo and looking to make friends along the way hostels are the way to go,” another agreed.
“I will ALWAYS spend extra money to be comfortable. Nothing about a hostel is appealing, wouldn’t even stay in one for free,” wrote another.
