An Australian influencer and former Love Island star has revealed the unglamorous reality of travelling to Europe in the summertime.
Former reality TV star Cassidy McGill, 28, is currently in Italy amid a multi-stop European tour, but she was shocked to see what Rome looks like in real life.
When McGill showed up to the postcard-perfect Trevi Fountain to shoot content for her 384,000 Instagram followers, she discovered the hotspot was rammed with tourists all clamouring their own picture.
“It’s absolutely f***ing heaving here. The reality of travelling during peak season,” she wrote, before adding she planned to return to the fountain “early in the morning” when there were less people.
McGill also planned to dine at Roman restaurant Tonnarello, a favourite among travellers due to its glowing Google reviews, but was shocked when she showed up and saw there was a line stretching around the block.
“This makes me so sad!” she said, sharing a video of the line snaking around the building.
McGill eventually managed to get a few glamourous shots of herself in Rome, captioning them: “Just another b***h in Europe”.
The Love Island alum recently shared more behind-the-scenes footage of influencer life, telling her followers she was downsizing from her expensive beachside apartment and admitting she only rented it to “keep up appearances”.
In response to a question from a fan about why she wasn’t “in love” with her ritzy pad, McGill got candid.
“I’m about to offload something that’s been plaguing my mind for a while,’ she wrote.
“When I moved into this apartment, I think I felt as if I had something to prove. I was getting a lot of pressure about not having started my own business and not seeming successful. People were asking what my next steps were in my career.”
McGill said she had just bought her “dream car” and felt pressure to keep presenting an outwardly glamorous life.
“When I found this apartment, I thought it might be flashy enough to appease people,” she said.
“This apartment has always felt cold and very big for just me … You could only imagine how much rent I pay and it’s absolutely a waste of money.”
In May, McGill took to Instagram to show off the more modest art deco apartment she’d moved into in Sydney’s east, which she said felt much more “homey”.
In an accompanying YouTube vlog, she explained: “‘It’s still in Vaucluse so it’s a nice, close move. But it’s much more me. It’s art deco, it’s cozy, it’s homey, it has character. It feels lived in. It’s beautiful.
“All my friends immediately say ‘this is me’ and I’m so excited for change.”
