Traffic chaos hits Sydney after two multi-car and truck crashes on major motorway
Traffic is banked up for almost 10km on a major Sydney motorway after two separate crashes involving multiple cars and a truck.
A major Sydney motorway has been partially blocked off on Thursday morning following two separate crashes involving multiple cars and a truck.
The separate crashes occurred within an hour of each other and within 10km on the M5 South-West Motorway on Thursday morning at Edmondson Park and Hammondville.
Major delays are expected, with traffic now banking up for 9km at a crash on the M5 at Camden Valley Way, Edmondson Park.
The crash, which occurred just before 7.30am, still has emergency services working at the scene, with one lane of traffic closed to motorists.
An Ambulance NSW spokesperson said four cars were involved in the smash, with two people being treated for injuries at the scene.
“One man in his 20s is being treated for severe chest pains, and a second patient, a woman in her 50s, is being treated for lacerations to the head,” the spokesperson said.
“The patients have not been transported to hospital yet.”
Emergency services remain at the scene diverting traffic, with motorists urged to take a different route or leave later.
A second, unlinked earlier crash involving two cars and a truck at Hammondville, about 10km away, has now cleared and traffic is running normally.
The city-bound multi-car crash, which happened around 6.30am, caused earlier delays, with traffic stretching back 9km.
Traffic has now cleared and surrounding roads remain unaffected.
The Ambulance NSW spokesperson said while no one had been trapped at the scene, one person was being treated for serious head injuries.
They have been taken to Liverpool Hospital.
