Queen Elizabeth cruise liner to pass Gallipoli for Anzac anniversary
THE luxury cruise liner Queen Elizabeth will make a special visit to Gallipoli to coincide with the 100th anniversary of the Anzac landings in World War I.
CRUISE liner Queen Elizabeth will make a special visit to the waters off Gallipoli to coincide with the 100th anniversary of the Anzac landings in 2015.
It will sail by the peninsula off the Turkish coast on April 24 after transiting the Suez Canal. But passengers will not disembark the ship at Anzac Cove, instead spending April 25 in Istanbul. There is expected to be a commemorative service on board on Anzac Day. Cruise fans can also look forward to another "royal rendezvous" when the Queen Mary 2 and Queen Victoria cross paths in Sydney Harbour. Cunard Line has revealed the liners will meet in Sydney on March 12, 2015, before the Queen Mary 2 departs on its second circumnavigation of New Zealand. Previous encounters between Cunard liners, including the meeting of Queen Mary 2 and Queen Elizabeth in 2011, have brought huge crowds to the harbour foreshore. Queen Elizabeth will also make her maiden call to Yorkeys Knob off Cairns on March 9, while Queen Victoria will make her first call to Akaroa in New Zealand on March 17. Picture: Charles Brewer Queen Mary 2 will be on a 113-night world voyage that year, Queen Elizabeth a 112-night circumnavigation and Queen Victoria offering a 103-night exploration of the Pacific. The new program also includes Queen Mary 2's maiden call to Sanya in China on February 19 to ring in the Chinese New Year, as well as a Royal Rendezvous of all three Queens in Southampton on May 3 at the end of their world cruises. Other maiden calls for Queen Victoria include Bora Bora in French Polynesiai, Puerto Limon in Costa Rica, Rarotonga in the Cook Islands and San Juan del Sur in Nicaragua. Queen Mary 2's itinerary will also feature her first visits to Bandar Seri Begawan in Brunei, Bitung in Indonesia and Sihanoukville in Cambodia. ###
