THE Escape team is happy to announce the winners of our Jetstar Escape Challenge competition!

Nearly 6,000 people entered the competition, in which they were asked to give their best money saving travel tip for the chance to win one of five getaways to destinations the Jetstar Travel Card can be used.

The winners are:

  • Felicity Bonner from Tuart Hill in Western Australia has won a trip for four to Singapore. Her advice was to download a free wi-fi finder onto your phone (and make sure you can access it offline) so you can find free hotspots wherever you are.

  • Kaz Reimann from Mount Martha in Victoria has won a trip for four to Darwin for her tip - to buy a water bottle with a filter and refill it. "A family of four could easily spend $20 a day on water and it's environmentally friendly too,'' she said.

  • Julie Korner from Highbury in South Australia has won a trip for two to Cairns. She recommended using mobile phone apps to download free travel guides, maps and phrase books.
  • Daniel Tuddenham from Burrawang in NSW won a trip for four to Queenstown in New Zealand for his tip to travel the local way and walk, ride a bike or catch local transport instead of taxis. "It will cost less and you will see a lot more,'' he said.
  • Ron Pokarier from North Tamborine in Queensland has won a trip for two to Tokyo for his advice. "For a cheap evening meal in Japan try the many corner and railway foodstores around 5.30 pm when remaining takeout meals are heavily discounted,'' he said.

The winners will fly Jetstar and stay at a superior hotel. The low-fares airline will also provide a Jetstar Travel Card loaded with $2500 for the winners to spend during their holiday.

Each winner will be on assignment for Escape with a checklist of things to do that includes finding a dinner for under $100, buying a souvenir for no more than $75, discovering a top tourist attraction for less than $20 and locating a sightseeing activity that can be done for free.

When they return, they will report on the jaunt in Escape, providing photos and videos so our readers can see what they did, and share tips and hints on the destination.
