INTERNATIONAL tourists are being assured Perth is still safe to visit after an Italian woman was stabbed five times in an alleged street robbery in the city’s east.

Stella Trevisani, 27, who is in Australia on a working visa, needed 300 stitches after the terrifying incident outside Claisebrook train station on Saturday night.

Police have charged a 15-year-old boy who was alleged to have approached Ms Trevisani and demanded her phone before stabbing her five times in the shoulder, leg and arm and running away, WA Today reported.

Police allegedly caught up with the boy about 250 metres away.

Speaking from her hospital bed, Ms Trevisani said she thought she was going to die.

“I could see the blood like springing out, so I said: ‘I’m gonna die’,” she told Seven News.

Her boyfriend Billie-Joe Birch said the incident made him think twice about living in Perth.

“Initially I was like ‘right, that’s it we’re going somewhere quieter and nice’,” he said.

A GoFundMe campaign to raise money to cover Ms Trevisani’s medical bills and loss of income has already raised more than $13,000 in a day, well above its $10,000 target.

The young woman has had several surgeries and is facing months off work and in rehabilitation.

She was returning home after finishing work for the day when Saturday’s incident occurred.

Following the alleged attack, West Australian Premier Mark McGowan said Perth was still a safe place for tourists.

“I’m very sorry it’s occurred,” he told reporters. “I’d say to everyone around the world that, by world standards, Perth and Western Australia are very safe places and encourage all tourists to come here.”

In a separate incident, a man has faced court over the savage bashing of a tourist on a footpath in Perth’s CBD.

Police allege the 26-year-old assaulted the tourist, aged in his 30s, in the early hours of Sunday morning on Adelaide Terrace in East Perth.

The victim was rushed to Royal Perth Hospital with severe head and facial injuries after police officers found him lying unconscious on the pavement. He remains in a serious but stable condition.

The alleged attacker was arrested in the city about half an hour later and has since been charged with one count of acting unlawfully with intent to harm. He faced Perth’s Magistrates Court on Monday.
