This is the horrifying moment a skydiver plummets to her death after both the main and reserve parachutes fail – launching a police investigation.
Footage captures the moment Carolina Muñoz Kennedy, 40, fatal last jump as she plummets at terrifying speed while spinning out of control.
The clip begins with the skydiver spinning into chaos – presumably due to the reserve parachute being twisted.
As altitude diminishes, for a moment it looks as if Carolina is able to untwist the parachute – but she proceeds to near closer and closer to the ground at a terrifying pace.
The last of the footage sees the 40-year-old head somewhere behind the trees, meanwhile what appears to be the rest of the skydiving crew stand in a field in shock.
The skydiver attempted an emergency procedure to land but tragically hit a road in Boituva, Brazil, on Saturday.
Paramedics rushed to the scene and gave Carolina first aid.
She was then taken to a nearby hospital, but succumbed to her injuries.
Carolina, who turned 40 two days before, had made jumps earlier and the fatal one was to be her last of the day.
She was originally from Santiago, Chile, but had been living in Boituva, north-west of São Paulo, Brazil, for more than five years.
Carolina, who began skydiving in 2013, was a pro athlete as well as a physiotherapist and chiropractor.
Her fatal fall was reported to police who seized her high-performance equipment for forensic analysis.
Witness José Soares de Melo told local media: “She was lying there on the ground waiting for help and people were calling the fire department and the police.”
“I felt incredibly sad, shocked.”
The Brazilian Skydiving Confederation, with which Carolina was registered, has said it will also prepare a report on the causes of the accident.
In a statement, it said: “In this difficult time, our thoughts are with our dear athlete, her family and the entire skydiving community.
“We reaffirm our commitment to the safety and well-being of everyone involved in our sport.”
One of her grieving pals Daniela paid tribute to Carolina.
She wrote: “Fly high, beautiful friend!
“Thank you for being in my life, for your support, your time, your kindness, the laughter, and those late-night study sessions.
“I adore you forever!”
