A tourist has been rushed to hospital after being swept off the rocks while taking selfies at a popular beach in Bali.
A Russian tourist has been rushed to hospital after being swept off the rocks during a selfie session at Bali’s iconic Padangbai beach.
Alena Andreeva, 25, ventured into the shallows to take photos of herself at the stunning Bias Tugel Beach before disaster struck.
The holidaymaker was standing on the reef while holding up her phone when a large wave knocked her off balance last Saturday.
She stumbled, cutting herself on the jagged rocks protruding from the surface.
A friend that she was with, Nikolai Protodikonok, 25, called for help when he saw her blood gushing into the water.
Footage shows authorities carrying the woman on a stretcher, having to navigate their way up a leafy cliff face.
The idyllic swimming spot is known as a ‘secret beach’ among locals, making it incredibly difficult to access.
Tucked at the end of a path through the forest, the journey is said to be steep and slippery.
According to reports, quick-acting lifeguards rushed to her aid, carrying Ms Andreeva back to shore.
She was then rushed to the Penta Medika Clinic for urgent treatment.
Local police chief, Commissioner I Nyoman Merta Kariana said, “While taking a selfie from the top of the rock, suddenly the victim slipped due to being hit by the beach waves and then fell into the sea.”
“Fortunately, the victim’s life was saved thanks to the help of lifeguards, residents and beach visitors. However, she suffered injuries to the head, thigh, and knees possibly because she hit the rocks,” he added.
Ms Andreeva was reportedly transferred to another local hospital for further treatment.
In a similar scene just days earlier, an Australian man and a local tour guide were injured after waves knocked them from their jet ski and into a cliff face.
The pair had been trying to photograph the cliff but were drawn closer to the dangerous coastline by strong currents.
Another Australian woman was tragically killed in a snorkelling-boat incident last month after her boat capsized due to strong waves.
