Teens trash Brisbane Airbnb during open-invite party
The booking was supposed to be a family of five, but it was hundreds of rowdy teens who descended on this Airbnb.
The booking was supposed to be for a family of five, but hundreds of teens descended on a Brisbane Airbnb on Saturday night, causing havoc with an open-invite party and trashing the house in the process.
Footage of the aftermath showed smashed glass and empty alcohol cans, a broken stair railing, and furniture and a vacuum among items thrown in the pool.
Queensland Police told news.com.au that on Monday, the Morningside Child Protection and Investigation Unit, which works with juvenile offenders, was still investigating.
While Australians outraged at the videos online expressed fury on behalf of property owner Benjamin Holt, his reaction was surprisingly calm.
He told Sunrise “the hardest part” of the ordeal was telling families who had booked a holiday at his Airbnb that they could no longer stay.
“We had someone who was booked in yesterday for a five-night stay: two adults and two kids. I had to call them the night before at 10.30pm and tell them they won’t be able to stay,” he said.
“That’s the hardest part for me, the cancelled bookings, the people who have their holidays ruined.”
Mr Holt wants those who posed as a family in their fake Airbnb profile to take responsibility and foot the bill for the repairs.
He speculated they might be “flushed with cash” as he heard it was a “paid party” where you had to cough up a fee to get in.
Earlier on 7News, Mr Holt had said, “the silver lining is no one was hurt” and that “the mess can be fixed”.
