More heart-stopping footage has come out of the quake showing the moment a swimmer was almost swept-off a rooftop in Bangkok.

The footage shows a couple lounging on a floatie in a pool perched at the edge of a high-rise building in the Thai capital, with another man relaxing on a sun lounger nearby.

But their afternoon dip soon turned into a terrifying ordeal as the building began to shake, sending huge waves crashing across the pool deck, The Sun reported.

At the first tremor, the couple lurch out of the floatie, looking visibly confused.

They’re seen clinging on and struggling to stay upright as the tower shakes beneath them.

Bangkok governor Chadchart Sittipunt declared the capital a “disaster area” and said rescue efforts were underway at three construction sites, including the fallen skyscraper.

Shaken residents of Myanmar have spoken of the “smell of dead bodies filling the air”, reported Al Jazeera.

“At this point, more bodies are being recovered than survivors,” said one local.

The death toll has surpassed 1,700 as rescuers race against the clock to save “countless survivors” who are buried under rubble.
