Wild footage shows a man repeatedly kicking a seat on a plane before being restrained and tied up by passengers.

The video was recorded on a United Airlines flight from Austin to Los Angeles on November 16.

The man, who was wearing a dark jumper, grey sweatpants and white Nike trainers, could be seen standing on a seat and kicking the back of it at least 10 times until it lay flat into the empty row behind.

The clip ends with the man jumping on the seat in what appeared to be a final attempt to dismantle it.

The bizarre act was filmed by San Diego-based passenger Gino Galofaro who said the man’s antics woke him up.

“I woke up to him kicking the seat,” Mr Galofaro said.

“The flight attendant walked by a couple times, nobody was doing anything. I restrained him and two other passengers were already getting zip ties so we zip tied his hands and feet and seat belted him to the seat. We were 40 minutes from LAX.

“Police came on-board when we landed.’’

Mr Galofaro, an addiction counsellor, said he hopes to be in communication with the man’s family to see if he can offer any help.

United Airlines reported there were 76 passengers on the plane with five crew.

“On November 16, local law enforcement met United flight 502 upon arrival at Los Angeles International Airport after a customer became disruptive,” a spokesperson said.

“We thank our crew for helping address the situation and working to ensure the safety of everyone on board. We’ve banned this customer from future United flights.”
